Trophic interactions between gastropods and macroalgae constitute a key element in the dynamics of coastal ecosystems, but many remain poorly known. This paper describes the observation of consumption of the invasive red alga Asparagopsis taxiformis by the gastropod Bittium latreillii, recorded in April 2026 in Es Pas de s’Illa (Eivissa, Balearic Islands). During September 2025, a high abundance of B. latreillii was detected in this location (9,376 ± 421 individuals/m²). In a new visit, in the spring of 2026, numerous individuals of this species were observed on A. taxiformis, consuming its lateral branches. The thalli examined hosted an average of 27.8 ± 6.4 individuals of B. latreillii. According to the literature consulted, the trophic interaction between these two species would constitute the first documented record. Although field observations do not allow us to determine whether the consumption of A. taxiformis is part of the usual diet of B. latreillii or corresponds to an opportunistic behavior, the results expand the knowledge about the feeding ecology of this gastropod and provide new evidence of the interactions between the native fauna and one of the invasive macroalgae of the Mediterranean. This observation highlights the need to develop experimental studies that allow us to determine the frequency, importance and possible ecological implications of this trophic relationship.
