El Botanicus Medicus és una botànica mèdica, escrita pel metge ciutadellenc Joan Cursach i Arguimbau, publicada l’any 1790 a Maó (Menorca). És una obra que conté un catàleg de 514 espècies amb propietats medicinals. Per a 269 espècies hi ha indicació de presència a l’illa, ja sigui com espontànies o com a cultivades. L’anàlisi crítica de les 162 espècies que s’han classificat com a espontànies i la comparació amb altres obres florístiques posteriors, com la Flórula de Menorca (1904) o el Catàleg de la flora vascular de Menorca (CFVM, 2004), mostren com el Botanicus Medicus proporciona dades florístiques que fins ara no s’havien tingut en compte. 13 espècies que es mencionen com espontànies serien la primera citació de naturalització a l’illa. Altres 25 espècies, també mencionades com espontànies, avui no es coneixen de la flora vascular de Menorca, llavors, podrien ser poblacions extingides, autòctones o naturalitzades, o per les que avui no es coneix la seva localització. En canvi, per a 15 espècies no hi ha menció de presència a l’illa, tot i que avui són presents com autòctones o naturalitzades. 23 espècies que Cursach menciona com a cultivades, avui no són presents a Menorca. Altres espècies que s’indiquen només com a cultivades, avui estan àmpliament naturalitzades. Tot açò mostra com és d’important revisar periòdicament fonts antigues que puguin contenir informació florística, malgrat hagin estat revisades anteriorment, atès que el valor i significat de les dades pot canviar en el temps.

Botanicus Medicus is a medical botany, written by the doctor, from Ciutadella, Joan Cursach i Arguimbau, published in 1790 in Maó (Menorca). It is a work that contains a catalogue of 514 species with medicinal properties. For 269 species there is an indication of presence on the island, either as spontaneous or as cultivated. The critical analysis of the 162 species that have been classified as spontaneous and the comparison with other subsequent floristic works, such as the Flórula de Menorca (1904) or the Checklist of the vascular flora of Menorca (CFVM, 2004), show how the Botanicus Medicus provides floristic data that had not been taken into account until now. 13 species that are mentioned as spontaneous would be the first citation of naturalization on the island. Another 25 species, also mentioned as spontaneous, are not known today from the vascular flora of Menorca, so they could be extinct, native or naturalized populations, or for which their location is not known today. On the other hand, for 15 species there is no mention, in the Botanicus Medicus, of presence on the island, although today they are present as native or naturalized. 23 species that Cursach mentions as cultivated, are not present in Menorca today. Other species that are indicated only as cultivated, are today widely naturalized. All this shows how important it is to periodically review old sources that may contain floristic information, despite having been previously revised, since the value and meaning of the data can change over time.
